Kooky – Walk on Your Wild Side Day

Today is apparantly Walk on Your Wild Side Day. So since I’m blogging about the letter ‘K’ today for the Blogging from A to Z Challenge I thought I’d go with “kooky” in the title.

The letter 'K' with the words "10th Anniversary blogging from A to Z April Challenge a-to-zchallenge.com

What does kooky mean?

According to dictionary.com it means:

of, like, or pertaining to a kook

which means:

an eccentric, strange, or foolish person.

Therefore if you’re being kooky you’re doing something eccentric, strange or foolish.

This word fits well with Walk on Your Wild Side Day.

What is Walk on Your Wild Side Day?

I found information about it on a few sites. On this day feel free to do the unexpected or something that you wouldn’t normally do. Be unpredictable in some way. Let your wild side out and show your uniqueness.

It’s a chance to let your inner child out or try something that you’ve always wanted to do.

It could be as simple as finding a tree to climb, eating your dessert first or something a little more like wearing clothes you wouldn’t normally wear or getting the new hair style that’s a bit different for you.

Every Day is Special and Starts At 60 also share a few ideas to give you some inspiration.

It’s a little about letting the real you show and not caring about what anyone else thinks. In fact most people are probably wishing they could be as bold or daring!

My Daughter Embraces this Attitude Well

My daughter always came up with the most imaginative ideas for things like ‘crazy hair day’ or sports day to show her team colours. She wanted her hair like a fountain one year for crazy hair day & had ideas for how to do it. One school sports day she taped yellow paper to her shoes and had a yellow balloon or 2 tied to her as well. Yes, yellow was the colour of her school sports house.

Just last night my nearly 8 year old niece was using a large box for a cubby house. My daughter shared how when she was in high school and home alone one day. She had maths homework to do so made herself a cubby and did her homework in there.

She also wore platform converse shoes to her Year 12 formal. You could only see them if you lifted the dress but she had no problems in doing what she wanted to do. All her friends were jealous by the end of the night as they had sore feet but my daughters feet were fine.

For her 18th Birthday party she had a kids themed pirate/fairy party during the day complete with kids party games. Many of her friends commented that it was the best 18th they’d been too!

So step out and be yourself or do that something that’s a little bit different. Not only for Walk on Your Wild Side Day but any day of the year.

What could you do to be just that little bit kooky?
