It’s World Toilet Day every year on 19 November. World Toilet Day is about taking action to ensure that everyone has a safe toilet option by 2030, which is part of the United Nations Sustainable Goal 6: sanitation and water. The theme this year is “When Nature Calls”
Here in Australia everyone should have access to a safe toilet. However in many other places people don’t have access to safe toilets. In fact 1 in 3 people don’t have access to a decent toilet. Below are some other facts about toilets and sanitation:
There are many organisations that are working to help people in developing countries to have access to a toilet. One such organisation is WaterAid which has lots of information about how you can run events on world toilet day to help raise money or raise awareness. They even have free toilet door learning posters that you can download, such as the times or periodic tables.
Who Gives a Crap is a company that supports WaterAid and 4 other organisations by donating 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world. I’ve been buying toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap for over a year now. The toilet paper works out cheaper per 100 sheets then the brand I was buying from the supermarket, it’s better for the environment, it’s helping others have access to a decent toilet and it is delivered to my door. Every time I’ve ordered it’s been delivered the next day, such great service. Each individual roll comes wrapped in bright paper with a saying on the back and one box of 48 rolls lasts for months as they’re double length.
