Reading Log – February 2017

This year I am keeping a record of the books that I read to see how many books I read in a year.  In February I didn’t read as many as January but school was back & everything had started up again.

So here’s what I read in February:

God’s Dangerous Book:  The surprising History of the World’s Most Radical Book – by Nick Page

This was a great read.  Nick is a very interesting writer & makes reading history fun.  I enjoyed reading about how what we now know as the Bible came to be.  “The truth is that the Bible was not delivered whole, shrink-wrapped & jiffy-bagged onto the desk of St Paul by some heavenly Fed-Ex courier.”p8

He includes lots of interesting footnotes such as this one when he is talking about possibly using a wheelbarrow to carry around all the scrolls before they had books – “Which they could have done, since the wheelbarrow or hyerteria monokykloul was invented as early as 400 BC.  Although, after the collapse of the Roman Empire, it disappeared from Europe until the Middle Ages.  Just thought you ought to know …”p24.  I found myself laughing quite often whilst reading this book.

Who will I be when I die? by Christine Bryden

This is Christine’s account of being diagnosed with dementia at age 45!  She was in a very high powered job with 3 daughters and this is her story about what happened after her diagnosis & how she coped.  It was very interesting to read about what dementia is like from someone who is experiencing it.

She has gone on to write 3 more books all about dementia & more of her story. The edition I was reading had been updated 14 years after the original diagnosis.  I would be interested to read more of her books.

The Happiness Dare by Jennifer Dukes Lee

I got this book for Christmas and then joined a Facebook book club that has been reading this book together for the last 6/7 weeks.  Jennifer posted live chats every week looking at the next couple of chapters of the book and there was much discussion between participants.

Did you know that we all have a happiness style?  You can go to www.happinessdare.com to find out your happiness style.  I was encouraged to find out that mine is Thinker which explains why I like reading so much.  My husband is a Doer which explains why he can’t understand how I can read so much, he’s too busy doing things around the house!

So in February I finished a total of 3 books.

This brings my total for the year to date to 9 books.
