Quick Chilli Beef

Jump to Recipe

Quick Chilli Beef is a recipe that we grew up having.  I’m linking up with Oh My Glai with a flavor of the month post.  This months flavour is Chilli.  This recipe is probably about the most spicy dish we eat as my hunachos1sband is not into spicy food.  We have it fairly mild but you can add more chilli powder to make it ‘hotter’ if you like.

I’m positive we didn’t have it with corn chips or wraps growing up but I can’t remember what it was served with.  My father has adapted this recipe and it appears in our “Mothers & Others” Recipe book.  This is my version as the mexican chilli beans he uses contain gluten so I just use regular kidney beans.

This recipe is very quick and one of our go to meals.  It has featured at many of my children’s family birthday dinners, including the birthday dinner I blogged about last year.

  1. Me again 🙄! We too had chili this week. I normally use either fresh or frozen tomatoes to make it; canned tomatoes often contain citric acid and like all added acid it doesn’t agree with my husband. But it’s still winter over here and I have run out of frozen tomatoes. Instead, I used puréed steamed butternut with a tablespoon of tomato paste. It was very good. I have to remember to post it next fall, and if I don’t, please remind me!

    1. The pureed butternut with a little tomato paste idea sounds lovely. I have have noticed a couple of times that I seem to have trouble sleeping after having dishes that have a lot of tomato puree so would be interested in trying some alternatives.
