Are you looking for recipes or cookbooks that are useful for intolerances. This post shares some cookbooks that I’ve got that help us when catering for food intolerances.
When we first started dealing with food intolerances it was hard to know where to start and what recipes could be safely used. Most of my cookbooks were not useful for intolerances. Since then I’ve collected many recipes online and physically that are useful and I’m trying to organise all these recipes. I’ve also learnt a lot about adapting recipes to suit our needs.
I still like using recipes that I don’t have to adapt too much and I like using cookbooks or printed recipes.
So here’s some of the useful cookbooks for intolerances that I have and find useful:
Against All Grain
Danielle Walker’s Against All Grain blog was one of the first I found with recipes we could easily use. I was so excited when I tried her bread recipe. With all of the recipes being paleo, they are gluten, grain, dairy and soy free. This is her first cookbook, she has a few more now.
Family Food
I found this Pete Evans cookbook in a second hand bookshop. It wasn’t too long after it had been released. So I quickly bought it for $10. Another with paleo recipes that are gluten free, sugar free, dairy free and soy free. Chicken Schnitzel is regularly on our menu. I also love the Chindii Cookiess, named after his daughters.
How to Cook for Food Allergies
A relative in Scotland sent me this when she found out about our food intolerances. Her husband has food intolerances and her daughter is coeliac. I like this cookbook not only for the recipes. Each recipe has detailed notes about adapting for different needs. However, it also has a very useful section with lots of information about substituting for eggs, gluten grains, diary products, nut and soya.
Life Changing Food
From one of my favourite food intolerances blog – Quirky Cooking. This cookbook has my favourite, most versatile grain-free dough recipe. I use it to make flatbread, pizza bases, lasagna noodles, sausage rolls & more. I regularly use a number of the breakfast recipes and we enjoy the Macadamia Shortbread Recipe. With thermo machine and conventional instructions it’s useful, no matter your kitchen appliances.
Quirky Cooking
I found so many of Jo’s recipes useful for my son’s dairy free and soy free diet that I had to get this cookbook when it was released. From making nut & seed milk, to main meals, to desserts, there are so many recipes we use often.
Note: The free shipping is about to be removed from all Quirky Cooking bundles that don’t include Solidteknics. If you’d like something, put an order in quickly, before it changes tomorrow morning. Also, the Cooking Bundle will be removed, so if you want that one, get it today.
Real Food Pledge
When Caralee from Real Food Pledge blog was developing recipes she asked for recipe testers. I had the privilege of testing 2 recipes both of which I’ve made a number of times. My son taste tested Baked Eggs with Chorizo, Tomato & Zucchini with me. Even though he doesn’t like tomato & zucchini he loves this recipe. The other recipe I tested (Pineapple & Lime mini Cheesecakes) is yummy as well!
