World Creativity and Innovation Day

thought bubble with a light bulb in it

World Creativity and Innovation Day is observed 6 days after Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday and the day before Mother Earth Day. This day was first observed in 2002 and become a World Creativity and Innovation Week in 2006. The United Nations (UN) uses this day to promote creative solutions to reach the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN has 17 Development Goals that are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. These goals address the global challenges we face and are interconnected and the aim is to achieve each goal and its target by 2030. The goals include:

  • No Poverty
  • Zero Hunger
  • Quality Education
  • Clean Water & Sanitation
  • Reduce Inequalities
  • Sustainable Cities & Communities
  • Climate Action
  • Responsible Production & Consumption
  • Partnership for the Goals

These development goals also fit with International Mother Earth Day and Fashion Revolution Week.

International Mother Earth Day reminds us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us with life and sustenance. It’s also about promoting a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations of humanity. This days fits nicely with the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Fashion Revolution Week

Words "Join the Fashion Revolution - Fashion Revolution Week - 22-28th April 2019"

Fashion Revolution Week is based around the #whomademyclothes April Campaign organised by Fashion Revoloution. Fashion Revolution is made up of people from all around the world who make up the fashion industry. These include the people who make the clothes to the people who wear them. This group developed after the Rana Plaza collapse in on 24 April 2013.

Words "Who made my clothes?"

They’ve made a simple tool so that you can contact brands and retailers via email, twitter or instagram. You can also see what events are happening in your country or area?

What are you or can you do to make the world a more sustainable place?
