I’ve mainly read novels this month. We went away for the May Labour Day Long Weekend at the beginning of the month, so I was able to read a few books then.
So here’s what I read this month:
Carrying Albert Home by Homer Hickam
I actually read this in April but forgot to blog about it so am adding it to this months list. This book is subtitled The Somewhat True Story of a Man, his Wife, and her Alligator. It is based on his parents early married life and Hickam has used the stories his parents told him to write the novel. The end of the blurb on the back of the book says “This is the tale of how Albert, Homer & Elsie finally found their way home, and how one crazy road trip became a truly great love story.”
Books 7-9 from the Mitford Series by Jan Karon
- In This Mountain
- Shepherd’s Abiding
- Light From Heaven
The story of Father Tim continues and we learn more about many of the beloved Mitford characters as well as meeting some new characters. Along the way a couple of the characters die including Uncle Billy who always liked telling a joke. I’ve only read 1 of the next 5 books so I’m looking forward to reading them when I get a chance.
We All Share by Mina Munns
I won this book on Mina’s Flame: Creative Children’s Ministry Facebook Page which goes with her blog of the same name. This book is subtitled Introducing Holy Communion to under 5s through play, exploration and creativity. It is a very practical book full of ideas for introducing under 5s, in any Christian faith tradition, to Communion. It has ideas for creche, junior church, the communion service and for at home. It also has useful book and website ideas at the end of each chapter, plus downloadable resources.

Secrets of a Happy Marriage by Cathy Kelly
The story starts with a prologue about Faenia in America but as most of the story is set in Ireland, you don’t work out how she fits into the story till part way through the book. The book mainly is about the story of 3 characters Bess, her stepdaughter Jojo and cousin Cari. There is a twist right near the end of the story that I never would have picked. Another good read from Cathy Kelly that looks at the complexity of family relationships.
So with another 6 books read this brings my total to 30 books for the year so far.
