June Reading Log

Wow, July already.  I can’t believe that we are half way through the year.

Reading Log June

I managed to finish 4 books this month:

Hands Free Life:  9 Habits for overcoming Distraction, Living Better & Loving More by Rachel Macy Stafford

Rachel blogs at Hands Free Mama & I wish she was blogging when my children were younger.  The book was about 9 habits she has intentionally developed to make her life better & to enjoy her children more.  I think that her younger daughter sounds a bit like my son.  I enjoyed her honesty in the book and it made me think about my own habits, although my children are older.

Of Ashes and Rivers that Run to the Sea by Marie Munkara

Marie Munkara is one of the Indigenous Australians who was taken & given to a strict white Catholic family to be raised.  Twenty-eight years later she finds out about her past.  This is a very honest account of her journey.  A quote from the book: “There is no stolen and there is no lost, there is no black and there is no white.  There is just me.  And I am perfect the way I am.” A very moving story.

Gone:  A Girl, a Violin, a Life Unstrung by Min Kym

This is the story of Min Kym a  world-class violinist.  She shares her story of growing up as a child prodigy, finding & purchasing her very special Stradivarius violin, how it was stolen & how this affected her.  Another very moving story.

The Reef by Di Morrissey

As always a powerful, thought provoking story from Di Morrisey.  From the blurb: “On a small coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef two communities come together in an uneasy alliance:  a tourist resort and a scientific research station.”

With 4 books read this month, this brings my total for the year to 29 books.
