Here’s the books that I finished in July. Mostly non-fiction but there is one novel among them.

Your Dream Life Starts Here: Essential and simple steps to creating the life of your dreams by Kristina Karlsson

A practical book to help you dream big and turn those dreams into goals and plans. Each short chapter had practical exercises to complete. There were also lots of great stories from people who had followed their dreams.

The Miracle Morning: The 6 Habits That Will Transform Your Life Before 8am by Hal Elrod

This book discusses 6 habits that you can do in as little as 6 minutes, 1 minute per habit. The recommendation is for 10 minutes each per habit which will then take an hour. I read this book after learning about The Miracle Morning in The Spark Effect Academy and I wanted to know more about the 6 habits. I was already doing some of these habits but now have been doing all 6 habits more regularly.

Lost Without You by Rachael Johns

After Paige’s mother collapses during the speeches at her book launch, Paige decides she’d like to make a tribute to her Mum by wearing her wedding dress on her own big day. However, her mother no longer owns the dress. As she attempts to track down the dress the lives of 4 women intertwine and none of their lives will ever be the same again. I read some Rachael Johns books in May, so when I saw this one at the library I decided to borrow it.

Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth

An interesting look at how grit, not talent or luck, makes a big difference in those who succeed in any area in life. Duckworth shares the research findings that show the true qualities that lead to outstanding achievement. This book has great insights not only if your trying to achieve personally but also for teachers, parents or anyone else who is trying to raise resilient children who persevere and achieve.

A long time ago in a cutting room far, far away: My Fifty Years Editing Hollywood Hits – Star Wars, Carrie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Mission: Impossible, and More by Paul Hirsch

This book provides a behind-the-scenes look at some of the most influential films of the last fifty years as seen through the eyes of movie editor, Paul Hirsch. Hirsch breaks down his career movie by movie as we get a look at the decisions that went into creating some of cinema’s most iconic scenes. As he’s describing many of the different scenes from many different movies, I could picture the scene, if I knew the movie. It was an interesting look at how the behind-the-scenes of movie making happens and you gain insight into casting, directing and scoring as well as the editing process. He also shares about how the technology has changed from literally cutting the film to the digital technology that is now used. It was a fascinating read and I’m glad I picked this up from the display in the Biography section of the library.
