July 2018 Reading Log

I managed to finish 3 books in July:

Reading Log July 2018

The Great Escape:  health, wealth and the origins of inequality by Angus Deaton

Talks about how much the world has changed, particularly since WWII.  How combating childhood illnesses has increased life expectancy and how many nations are better off.  But this has created a bigger gap between rich and poor not only between countries but within countries.    The book finishes by looking at how to help those left behind and that foreign aid has not always been helpful.

How to Write Your Own Book & make it a Bestseller by Rachael Bermingham

A small easy to read book that gives a good overview of writing and publishing a book.  Particularly helpful for self publishing.  I would never have thought about obtaining an ISBN and a bar-code. It was published in 2009 and I feel that much of what was contained in the book could be found online now a days.

The Creative Habit:  Learn It And Use It For Life by Twyla Tharp

A book about how to make creativity a part of your life, whatever that creativity is.  Tharp is a choreographer but talks not only about creating dance but also writing, painting, business etc.  There are lots of practical ideas and exercises.  One idea that resonated with me was not finishing all of your thoughts in the one session but stopping while you still have more and making a note of what you were going to do next.  It is a book about creating habits & good practices so that creativity will flow from that.

So with 3 books read in July that brings my total to 35 books read for the year so far.

What have you been reading lately?
