August Reading Log

In August I managed to read 7 books & almost finished another 1.

Reading Log August

So the books I read were:

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

Gretchen researched about happiness & then spent a year doing different things whilst monitoring her happiness & blogging about it.  This book is the result & each month she focuses on one main thing.  It was a thought provoking book that showed her journey.  Many others have since done their own happiness project & there are lots of resources on Gretchen Rubin’s website for your own happiness project.

A True Story of The Great Escape by Louise Williams

Louise is the niece of John Williams who was one of the many prisoners who helped build the tunnel & escape from Stulag Luft III camp in World War II.  This has been depicted in the movie The Great Escape.  She pieced the story together from much research.  It was interesting to read the life story of one such POW, with many anecdotes from other POWs.

We Were the Lucky Ones Georgia Hunter

A novel base on the true story of her families survival as Polish Jews from Radom during World War II.  The family becomes scattered all over the world and this is the story of how they survive.  They are reunited after the war.  Absolutely amazing story and to think that of the 30 000 Jew who live in Radom at the beginning of the war fewer than 300 survived.  I have read many war stories but mostly from an English perspective, so the perspective of a family of Jews from Poland was amazing reading.

Love Over Hate by Graham Long

Rev Graham Long has been Pastor & CEO of The Wayside Chapel in Sydney’s Kings Cross for over 10 years.  He shares the story of how he came to be in the role & the story of The Wayside Chapel, along with stories of some of the many people that they have met as they journey together in this community.  This was a moving & challenging book.

60 Postcards by Rachael Chadwick

The true story of how Rachael lost her Mum to cancer just 16 days after she was diagnosed.  In December of the same year with her  Mum’s 60th birthday approaching she took a group of friends to Paris & scattered 60 postcards with a handwritten message, including her email address, so finders of the postcards could get in touch.  Many people found her postcards and did get in touch.  A raw, honest account of one women’s struggle with grief & how she began to work through it.

10 000 Reasons by Matt Redman

This is the story of the song Matt Redman wrote and includes many stories of how the song has helped others particularly in times of grief or hard times. 10 000 Reasons is an amazing song and an amazing book.

The Liar by Nora Roberts

As always a great read from Norah Roberts.  The man Shelby married is dead and has left her in huge debt.  She finds multiple IDs for this man and realises that the life she had been living was a lie.  She takes her young daughter home and starts to rebuild her life but can she escape from her past?

So with 7 books read in August that brings my total to 38 books for the year so far.

Most of these books were library books but I’m now trying to concentrate on reading some of the many books in our house that I haven’t read yet.
